Georgia has beaten Russia 36-8 in what was effectively the European Nations Cup decider, with the South Caucasus based rugby nation claiming the ENC Division One title.

It is was the second title on the trot for the Georgians, who confirmed their rise as a rugby world power after coming second to Romania in the 2004/06 European Nations.

Due to tensions between the two countries, the game was played in neutral territory in Trabzon Turkey, with the first game between the two sides also being won by the former Soviet territory, being played then in Mariupol, Ukraine, with the Russians going down 29-21.

Georgia is now confirmed as entrants to Pool B, with Argentina, England and Scotland already qualified for the group.  The final berth is this group will be decided by a playoff winner between four teams.

Russia joins the Wallabies, Irish, Italians and American in Pool C.

The final spot, to join Pool A and hosts the All Blacks; will be decided by the winner of the 2010 Asian Five Nations.

In other matches, Romania continued their late surge in the ENC to beat Portual 20-9 at the Estádio Universitário in Lisbon, Portugal.

But outside of the final confirmation of the championship winner and finalisation of where both Georgia and Russia would end up, the biggest result was witnessed in Germany, where Germany narrowly lost to Spain 21-17 at the Fritz-Grunebaum-Sportpark in Heidelberg.

This was the best result so far in the championship for the winless Germans.
