Rugby stripped naked Print E-mail

The role of the Wallabies coach is oft reported on, I would imagine rarely under such a headline though.

A short while ago before Robbie Deans announcement as the new coach, a man named Alan Jones himself a former Wallaby Coach and now a high profile radio broadcaster threw his hat back in the ring for the role. The thrust of his application (at least externally to the press) was that rugby was still a simple game with fifteen players and a ball.

There you have it, Rugby stripped as bare as you can get it and you know what. He is right.

When a team has 6, 8 or 10 coaches just to get from one game to the next is bordering on the ridiculous. How do the management expect the players to take in all this information, process it and then not let it hinder their on field performance?

Has the modern rugby player become the equivalent of a goverment agency worker? You know the type, their have their role and they fulfill their role but their never do anything different.

Teams must be so easy to play against, yes they are fitter, stronger and often faster but they are becoming very very predictable.

Perhaps the iRB should be looking to introduce a maximum number of coaches at the same time as they introduce the ELV's, in truth rugby would be all the richer for it.
