BOULDER, Colo. – The USA Rugby Women’s National Team (WNT) has released the final match rosters for its intra-squad competition, the Red/White Match, set to kick off at 4 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, November 22 at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The Red/White Match is aimed at giving the WNT athletes an additional competitive venue before the end of the year, providing them with another opportunity to compete under pressure. Split among the Red and White teams respectively, the 44 selected players include a handful of veteran athletes, some of whom competed in the Nations Cup in August, as well as younger up-and-coming athletes, several whom have aged out of the Under-20 program. The match will be held in conjunction with the 2008 Under-19 Invitational National All-Star Championships, which are also set to be held in Fort Lauderdale November 22-23, and aims to create some synergy and continuity between the various levels of the Women’s High Performance rugby within the U.S. “It is a great opportunity for the senior women players to observe the high quality of rugby being played by the younger athletes. Furthermore, it allows the Under-19 athletes to watch the Women’s National Team live. It gives them the opportunity to meet and talk with the Eagles after the match and to discuss the various paths taken by players to reach the top of their sport,” said USA Rugby’s High Performance Manager Alex Williams. “Additionally, USA Rugby’s U-19 Territorial Union Coaches will have the opportunity to meet with Women’s National Team Head Coach Kathy Flores and her staff. Overall, this is a great first step toward connecting all levels of the WNT and High Performance programs.” TEAM RED 1 DOUGLAS, Farrah (Chicago North Shore) 2 BUTTS, Lisa (Davis Women) 3 BAKER, Stacey (Philadelphia) 4 HOBSON, Christina (New York) 5 MCCORMICK, Kati (UW–Milwaukee) 6 ZDANCZEWICZ, Kristin (MN Valkyries) 7 ROYCE, Beckett (ORSU) 8 DALEY, Kate (Keystone) 9 HERTEL, Katy (MN Valkyries) 10 KANUK, Mel (DC Furies) 11 MARCHINO, Nathalie (Berkeley All-Blues) 12 BYDWELL, Emilie (Beantown) 13 KUGLER, Lynelle (Glendale) 14 MCGEE, Vanesha (Philadelphia) 15 ENGLISH, Ashley (Berkeley All-Blues)
