New Zealand will meet England in the final of the IRB Junior World Championship 2008 on Sunday, June 22 after they defeated Wales and South Africa respectively in their semi-final matches.
In wet and windy conditions, New Zealand scored two tries in each half to defeat Wales 31-6 at Rodney Parade in Newport, while an injury-time try from England's Alex Corbisiero ended South Africa's hopes and sealed a 26-18 victory at the Arms Park in Cardiff. The inaugural final takes place at Liberty Stadium in Swansea with kick off at 19:00 local time, after Wales and South Africa meet in the third place play-off two hours earlier. France and Australia will play off for fifth place after beating Argentina 30-6 and Samoa 32-0 respectively. This match kicks off at Cardiff Arms Park at 15:00 local time on Sunday, after the 11th place play-off between Italy and Canada. Ireland and Scotland will contest ninth place, after both sides needed sudden death extra-time to beat their opponents. Ireland edged out Italy 9-6 in Cardiff and Scotland eased past Canada 15-10. The match kicks off at 13:00 in Newport, before Argentina face Samoa for seventh place overall. The two other play-offs take place on Saturday, June 21 at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham, with Fiji facing Tonga for 13th place at 17:00 local time before Japan meet USA in the 15th place playoff. Tonga scored two late tries to beat Japan 17-5 first up in Wrexham, before Fiji set up the all-Pacific encounter by edging a tight encounter against USA 27-22. |
