England will have two Taits at full back in their international teams this week. Mathew Tait has been named at No.15 in the senior side to face New Zealand on Saturday and his younger brother Alex, 20, will be playing the same role for the England Under 20 side on Wednesday night.
Tait junior came off the bench to help England complete their 18-13 win against Australia in last weekend’s Pool C decider at the IRB Junior World Championships. The two brothers played alongside each other at Newcastle for the first time this season before Mathew – who will win his 25th cap in Christchurch – announced his move to Sale Sharks. Alex keeps his place as England make three changes to their starting line-up for the semi-final against South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park tonight (9.10pm). Tait takes over from Noah Cato (Saracens) at full back, with England’s leading Under 20 international try-scorer moving onto the right wing and Seb Stegmann (Harlequins) standing down. The other two changes are in the forwards, where Ben Thomas (Saracens) replaces Scott Hobson (Cornish Pirates) in the second row and Matthew Cox (Worcester Warriors) comes in for Jon Fisher (London Irish) at blind-side flanker. London Wasps wing Mark Odejobi takes the space vacated by Tait on the replacements bench. England are unbeaten in eight games at Under 20 level this season, scoring 38 tries in total, after completing a Six Nations Grand Slam and beating Fiji (41-17), Canada (60-18) and Australia at the Junior World Championship. England U20 play South Africa U20 in the semi final of the IRB Junior World Championship at Cardiff Arms Park on Wednesday at 9.10pm. New Zealand take on hosts Wales in the other semi-final at Swansea (7pm).
