Warringah will be looking to win the Jack Scott Memorial Cup for the fourth year in a row when they take on Sydney University in the Sydney Women’s Grand Final at Wills Ground, Earlwood on Saturday.

Warringah have been the form side of the competition, conceding just 24 points throughout their 2008 campaign, but will be wary of their opponents having dropped their only match of the season to Sydney University.

The Rats have had the luxury of a week off having defeated Parramatta 25-0 in the Major Semifinal two weeks ago to progress directly through to the Grand Final.

The Students have had a tougher run through to the decider, overcoming two weeks of sudden death Rugby to defeat Canterbury 49-5 in the Minor Semifinal and the Two Blues 16-7 in the Preliminary Final.

Some of Australia’s best Women’s Rugby talent will be on show in the Grand Final, headed up by Wallaroos skipper Cheryl Soon who will be looking to lead Warringah to victory. The Rats also feature Australian Sevens star Tui Ormsby, NSW touch representative Rachel Byrne, dual international Lisa Fialoa (league and union) and rugby league international Nicole Backhouse.

The Sydney University side however is not without its fair share of talent, featuring three Wallaroos from the 2006 World Cup, three members of the current Wallaroos squad, a Japanese international and eight players who featured in the 2008 National Championship-winning Sydney team.

The side will be led by Rachelle Pirie, playing her ninth year for Sydney University and despite appearing in three Grand Finals is still chasing her first premiership.

The Division Two Grand Final will take place before the Warringah-Sydney University clash, with Bankstown taking on Waverley.
