The Tooheys New Shute Shield will feature a host of Super 14 and Wallaby stars on both sides of the pitch when Sydney University take on Randwick at Concord Oval on Saturday.

Sydney University has dropped just two matches this season, however one of those was to Randwick who last week came from behind to defeat second-placed Gordon to earn a place in the competition decider.

The biggest change to this week’s line-ups is the omission of Sydney University flanker Jono Jenkins. The flying backrower went down with a neck injury at Coogee Oval in last week’s Preliminary Final against Eastern Suburbs which forced the match to be stopped for around ten minutes.

His place in the pack will be taken by none other than HSBC Waratahs skipper Phil Waugh who adds even more experience to an already impressive line-up.

The Minor Premiers and defending champions feature no less than ten Super 14 and Wallaby stars in their side and go into the Grand Final as favourites.

Tim Davidson will lead the Students into their Premiership defence, backed by the likes of Al Campbell, Will Caldwell, Dean Mumm, Waugh, Daniel Halangahu, Leo Afeaki, Peter Playford and Jeremy Tilse.

However they will be up against an extremely talented Randwick team which has named current and ex-Wallabies as well as players contracted to every Australian Super Rugby franchise in its line-up this weekend.

Stephen Hoiles will captain the Wicks team which includes Sekope Kepu, Adam Freier, Mark Chisholm, Josh Valentine, Morgan Turinui, Ben Mowen, Peter Jorgensen, Francis Fainifo and Ratu Nasiganiyavi.

There will be a battle of the brothers in the centres with Dane and Mitch Inman going head-to-head, while Randwick reserve hooker Atonio Halangahu will get the chance to face-off with his brother Daniel when he takes the park.

Randwick reserve back Peter Jorgensen will be looking to score a Premiership 16 years after his first having won his first Shute Shield in 1991.

Gates open at 9:30am for the lower grades which kick-off at 10am.
