The Quebec Caribou have turned the Rugby Canada Super League's Eastern division on its ear in 2008. Since managing a season opening draw against the Niagara Thunder - both sides have gone undefeated, with the Caribou now sitting atop the standings following a 37-3 victory Monday night over the New Brunswick Black Spruce. The Quebec squad swept their maritime tour - downing the Nova Scotia Keltics 33-13 on Saturday.

The RCSL schedule has seen Monday match-ups on two consecutive weeks now, making for busy weekend's of rugby action throughout the league.

The Caribou opened the scoring with a penalty at the 15 minute mark, followed by another at the 20 minute mark, both scored by fly-half Yoan Morlot.

The Spruce got on the board next with a penalty by Graham Webb. Then Morlot scored a try on a long run to end the first half, 11-3 in favour of the visitors.

The second half was all Caribou, with Morlot scoring his second try and and three conversions, two to go with tries added by Chris Cesari, and Courtney Bishop.

"If we could have gotten scores when we were in scoring position in the first half, it would certainly have put a different kind of complexion on the game," said Black Spruce head coach Keith McAlpine.

"But we failed to do that, and they had a few long distance tries which were built on their stealing the ball. They were good at stealing the ball and we weren't particularly good at looking after it. I think that was really the difference. "

The Thunder have a game in hand but all pundits will be looking at the opening game of the season for the Newfoundland Rock, as they travel for a Friday night encounter in Ottawa to take on the Harlequins, followed by a Sunday afternoon tilt in Montreal. If the Caribou can take advantage of a travel weary Rock, working out the kinks at the start of the season, it could spell trouble for the Thunder later in the season when the two meet at Swilers on June 28th.

Other weekend action saw the Prairie Fire fall to the Crimson Tide for the first time in nearly four years. The Saskatchewan squad held a tight 13-9 lead at the half, but key substitutions in the front row proved to be the difference as the Tide triumphed 31-26 in what was the opening match of the RCSL's western division.
