CANADIAN RUGBY REACHES CRESCENDO |

This weekend sees the climax of the Rugby Canada Superleague. A short but well thought out high quality affair.
This tournament is going a long way to bridging the gap to international rugby at a domestic level. The real benefit of this league Rugby Canada Superleague though can be found at the Under 20 tournament that shadows the mens open event. As Dave Burnett from the RCSL and Niagara Lightening explains "On the weekend (past) the Niagara Lightning beat the Jnr. Rock 15 - 6 and the Vancouver Jnr. Wave beat the Calgary Jnr. Mavericks and the winners will face each other in the RCSL u20 National Championship hosted by the Lightning on the same weekend as the Snr. final. This should be a very interesting match-up as both teams are full of very good players." Teams such as Burnett's in Niagara are renowned for developing young talent. It is testament to the will of the people involved that this competition exists at all, some of the supposed "professional" countries are nowhere near attaining a set up like this. Rugby Canada and the RCSL should be commended for their efforts to blood juniors at a higher level and then introduce them to senior rugby at the right time. |
