After last weekends 11 - 10 victory over Luxembourg, Finland have the opportunity to finish in second place in European Rugby's Division 3C.
Bro Bannatyne, former chairman of the FRFU talks us through the match" Match was as close as the scoreline suggests. Yet again Finland had the better opportunities to score and should have converted their territory into points. Luxemburg did not look as if they had as strong a team as last year, but neither was Finland at its strongest, so a close result was on the cards. Finland had a chance of running in a try early on from an intercepted pass but the No.11 winger from Lux had incredible speed and tracked the man down. Finland went into half time down by 3-10 after what was a good run by the same No.11 against some pretty weak-attempted tackling. He must have evaded 5 or 6 players. However, Finland came out at half time determined to put things right. A penalty within 5 minutes was followed by a deserved try 6 minutes later. 11-10. Sadly there were no more points to be scored but there were opportunites." Bannatyne explains further what the victory meant to the Finns "This win puts Finland in the exciting prospect of finishing 2nd in the group if they can repeat their perfomance over Israel. Whatever the result, Finland will finish in 2nd/3rd and Israel will be fighting for 4th/5th in the group. Either they or Bosnia will then have to play Cyprus on 14th June." The match in Israel should be a cracker. |
