Malta have won a famous 9 -6 victory over Sweden in Vänersborg in a match that doubled as both ENC 2B & RWC 2011 qualifying.

Sweden had started pre match favourites on the back of a number of consecutive wins and a strong showing in their previous outing. Malta had been distracted in their build up with Jarrod Sammut being withdrawn due to a contractual dispute with his NRL employer and themselves were struggling for form.

The game itself turned out to be a tryless encounter with the boot of Matthew Jarrett from Malta proving to be the difference, he slotted three penalty goals whilst Thomas Arvidsson could only manage two.

Both sides will now be hoping that Latvia can beat The Netherlands to break up the logjam at the top of Div 2B.
