“I needed to watch these guys a bit more,” Johnson said. “Since this is a full test match, it was really important to look at their depth and how they fit into different positions.  I’m balancing the fact that I still want to see what players can do and where they fit the best, with the fact that it is a test match and I want to see the best team out on the field.”
 
Mone Laulaupeaalu is named as a reserve hooker, while Chad Slaby will fill the prop role on the reserves. Brian Doyle will most likely earn his first cap wearing the jersey #17, while Henry Bloomfield may come on as a No. 8. There’s no surprise that Robbie Shaw and Nese Malifa are both named as scrumhalf and flyhalf reserves, and Albert Tuipulotu has earned the other back line reserve position.
